Outside Bets

In roulette the two major kinds of bets are the inside bets and outside bets. Thought the payout for the inside bets are definitely higher, the chances of winning the outside bets are more. The outside bets are not placed on a single number but groups and the chips are placed outside the numbered grid on the roulette table. There are a variety of outside bets which can be placed by the players.

The manque is placed on a group of 18 numbers, numbers from 1 to 18. This means winning number can be any from 1 to 18; the chances of winning this bet are high because of which the payout is a low 1 to 1.

The passe bet is also placed on 18 numbers like the manque but the numbers are from 19 to 36, i.e. the winning number has to fall between these two limits. The payout for the passe is also 1 to 1.

A popular and well known outside bet is the red or black bet. As the name suggests the player has to bet whether the number will fall in the red or the black slot. This is also known as the rouge and noir bet and has a payout of 1 to 1.

On the odd or even bet, the player has to guess if the number will be an odd one or an even one. It is also called the pair impair bet and pays out 1 to 1.

The dozen bet, also known as the douzaine bet is placed on 12 numbers. the players have to guess whether the number will be among the first dozen of numbers, i.e. between 1 to 12 or between the second dozen, 13 to 24 or the third dozen 25 to 36. The payout for the dozen bet stands at 2 to 1.

Another kind of bet where the player has to bet on sets of 12 numbers just like the above is the column bet. But the difference between the two is that in the column the player has to bet on the 12 numbers which form each column on the roulette grid on the table. The payout for this one is also 2 to 1.

The outside bets which payouts 1 to 1 are known as the even money bets. However, you should remember that the odds for them are not 50% because of the presence of the zeros which makes the odds less than 50%.
